Postcards From the Edge

Today I want to share a great little quilt that I finished up this weekend. Postcards From the Edge

This little quilt was made with the fun Postcard QAL hosted by Debbie over at A Quilters Table. This is a great little pattern that goes together quickly and uses fun text fabrics to look like postcards!

I made mine with the beautiful Indelible Fabrics from Art Gallery by Katerina Roccella. These have that lovely soft, flowing quality that Art Gallery is known for and the colors and designs are just beautiful! I could easily see a wonderful top/blouse made out of several of these especially the lovely teal and grey flowery ones.

I chose the name for this quilt based not only on the postcard blocks but on the wonderful imagery from the Indelible fabrics like this beautiful deer - so handsome he looks like he standing on the edge, just watching! You can see I did loop de loop quilting on this quilt. First time I have done this and I think it turned out well. I would use it again. It added texture and interest without taking away from the design and fabric.

This is the back of the quilt and you can see I pieced it using two different fabrics and reversed them to add some interest -fun butterflys made up of triangles and deers on the coo coo clocks.
For the binding I used the grey with small print flowers.

Fresh Sewing Day

Happy November 1st! It has definitely came in like a roaring lion here in northern Indiana. From a beautiful 74 degrees last week end to a snow flurry filled 28 degrees last night and the wind is till blowing. So lets move on to something more fun -- a look back at last months projects!

As you can imagine, the month was focused on Autumn and Halloween themed projects.
First up is my finished Birthday/Halloween quilt for my dear grandson. He was turning 6 and specifically request a "blanket" of Halloween fabrics.  So while this is very busy and not my typical style, I am happy to say that doesn't matter much when the little one loves it!

Next up were my October bee blocks for That Stash Bee. I have so enjoyed being a part of this group! Lots of fun new blocks. Katie chose this one- called Maple Leaf; it is a free pattern from McCall's. you can find it here. It was very fun to choose fabrics for and sew up!

To be honest the majority of my time for the last half of October was spent making this fun tablerunner for the Handmade Autumn swap. It was one of those awesome times when it turned out just like I had pictured it in my head and sketched out. You can read more about it here if you would like. My partner loved it and that made all the work and worry totally worth it!

A quick project was cutting and sewing up my blocks for a Quilt Con 2105 Charity Quilt. I finished them up late one evening and sealed them up ready to send off without snapping a picture of them. So what you get to see is the fabrics my group chose and the trimmings. Really, we made different size HST's from all of the colors with one side snow and the other color. Now one of the group will be piecing the quilt and another quilting it. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

There were a few Oops, along the way to. But I try not to let them get me down. Like this self binding baby blanket - Oops! Obviously I cut the corners the wrong way, but it was late at night and the first time I had made this. I thought I had the corners just like the video showed--- uhhhm...guess not.  I just couldn't bring myself to make another at that time. So she will be receiving some fun, store bought baby gifts. And I will make another, another day. :)

I hope you have had a great October. I am looking forward to November and some fun projects to make and share with you!
